Would you like to have the time to address your patients’ needs, to live within a community where you are appreciated and to work with an extended team committed to providing the highest quality patient-centred care? We are looking for highly motivated GPs with a passion for clinical care, a strong team-working track record, ability to contribute to the community and perhaps an interest in multi-disciplinary teaching or research.

The posts involve daytime GMS work plus out of hours provision to a population of 600 on Unst and 1200 on Yell (the Yell practice includes providing cover to the small island of Fetlar). The posts have study leave allocation to allow you to acquire and maintain the skills needed. Posts will appeal to experienced practitioners wishing to establish a healthier work life balance, consult at a civilised pace and rediscover the joy of true general practice.

We will consider the following staffing models: Full time GP as above or 2 x Part time GPs each to work opposite 20 weeks; this may suit a portfolio career incorporating other roles in the UK or overseas, alternatively could be combined with work elsewhere in Shetland. These posts are currently salaried but if you would like to discuss taking either practice as an independent GP Principle, we would be happy to consider that as well.

Systems to support you include EMIS and DOCMAN. The team in each health centre is friendly, welcoming and very supportive. A work car is provided for the use of the GP to support local service delivery and Out of Hours cover. The practices provide their own Out of Hours cover and compensatory rest for this cover is given in the annual leave entitlement. For more information on either practice, please see below for links to the practice websites:

Shetland offers low pollution, low crime, excellent schools, great leisure facilities, unique wildlife and amazing scenery, whilst still only a short flight away from the UK mainland.
